On 29 April 2025, Open AANT hosted the presentation of La fondazione massmediale del mondo by Professor Alessandro Alfieri.
The event brought into the Academy a dense discussion on the languages of contemporary culture and on the way media shape our experience of the present.
A philosopher and essayist, Alfieri shared with students and attendees the main theoretical ideas of his recent book.
The volume moves across popular music, post-television seriality, cinema, and fashion, connecting cultural phenomena that are different yet deeply intertwined. It does so through three levels of analysis: the mass-media level, the stylistic-formal level, and the level of the imaginary. What emerges is a reflection on the aesthetics and ontology of the contemporary, understood not merely as a field of consumption, but as a space where symbols, emotions, and worldviews take shape. The event offered students an important opportunity to read pop culture not as something superficial, but as a device capable of organising sensibilities, desires, and imaginaries. In the account published after the event, the room is described as full of young people eager not only to listen, but also to compare ideas and perspectives.
