Jacopo Guarneri

On 20 January 2026, Open AANT hosted Jacopo Guarneri for a lecture dedicated to the relationship between sound, image, and audiovisual storytelling.

A composer, sound designer, and lecturer at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Guarneri guided students through a path that moved from opera to contemporary cinema. The meeting focused on the role of sound in the construction of meaning, showing how voice, music, noise, and silence all play a decisive role in audiovisual dramaturgy. Through examples and concrete references, the lecture connected musical tradition, theatrical culture, and the languages of cinema and media.

The dialogue with students moved across both the historical evolution of the relationship between the visual and the sonic and the more recent transformations of contemporary storytelling. Alongside theoretical reflection, Guarneri also addressed professional aspects such as workflows, the figures involved in sound production, copyright, and audio branding strategies. This double level, both cultural and operational, made the event particularly useful for those training today in the audiovisual field.

Guarneri’s presence thus created a bridge between high-level musical training and contemporary audiovisual production practices. The result was an event able to hold together opera, cinema, and sound design within a single coherent perspective.
