AANT at the Salone dello Studente 2025:
where passion meets future skills

Once again this year, AANT took part in the Salone dello Studente at the Fiera di Roma, bringing its new creative concept:
“Love is the only thing that matters. Yes, but you need skills.”

At the fair, we wanted to express this message not only through words, but also through:

  • dedicated materials designed by our creatives
  • customized gadgets and bags, conceived as small storytelling objects
  • visuals and setups that transformed our stand into a narrative space

At the Salone dello Studente, we met hundreds of young people eager to discover their talent. Thanks to the contributions of our tutors and students, we were able to share with them the spirit and energy of our creative community.

Libero Bizzarri Award: creative intelligence and new forms of storytelling

From 13 to 16 November, the 32nd edition of the Libero Bizzarri Award was held at the Museo del Mare Hall in San Benedetto del Tronto. This year, the central theme of the event—organized by the Libero Bizzarri Foundation in collaboration with the Marche Region and the Directorate-General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the MIC—was creative intelligence and new forms of storytelling. Through debates, talks, and screenings, the festival explored a highly topical thread: the role and influence of artificial intelligence in the world of cinema.

Among the scheduled events, one was particularly significant for AANT. On Friday the 14th, at the Academy’s headquarters in Rome, sociologist Derrick De Kerckhove—member of AANT’s Scientific Committee and its geniaLAB HUB—and Gianna Angelini, Scientific Director and Head of Internationalization at the Academy in Rome, took the stage. The meeting, titled “Connective Intelligence: the Impact of Media on Humans and Society,” also included the screening of the episode “McLuhan’s Electronic Village”, which examines the thinking of the renowned scholar through technological applications used in the fields of mass media and telecommunications.

The screening of Libero Bizzarri’s documentary provided the catalyst for an intense and multifaceted dialogue between Gianna Angelini and Derrick De Kerckhove. Prof. Angelini recalled how McLuhan redefined the categories through which we interpret modern communication, paving the way for a new sensitivity toward the media environment. Yet it fell to the next generation—De Kerckhove’s—to confront the emergence of the digital revolution, a territory McLuhan had only glimpsed and theorized.

During the conversation, Angelini described De Kerckhove as McLuhan’s “methodological and intellectual heir,” a scholar capable of expanding insights that are now more relevant than ever in the age of artificial intelligence and algorithmic pervasiveness. Revisiting McLuhan’s famous dictum “the medium is the message,” De Kerckhove underlined how it is not content that transforms us, but the medium itself—which reshapes perception, social bonds, and cognitive structures. From this premise arises his research on neuroculture, the discipline that investigates cognitive changes generated by new media environments.

The screening of Bizzarri’s documentary also brought back the voice and face of a strikingly contemporary McLuhan, capable of foreseeing the trajectory of technological transformations decades in advance. The recovered images, shown once again to the public, confirmed how essential his thought remains today for understanding not only the media but the very structure of contemporary experience.

The festival concluded on Sunday with the awards ceremony for the ITALIADOC and Opera Prima competitions—the latter dedicated to filmmakers under 35—along with the Andrea Pazienza Award for inventive use of images and graphics, the Libero Bizzarri Award for Best Documentary, and the Under 35 Audience Award.

The Creative Skills Week 2025 took place in Prague from 22 to 26 September, bringing together dozens of international professionals from the cultural and creative sector for an event dedicated to lifelong learning and the development of new skills. AANT participated in the initiative with a delegation composed of General Director Rossana Quarta and Scientific Director and Head of Internationalization Gianna Angelini. Our representatives actively took part in workshops and training sessions throughout the week, bringing the Academy’s voice to this important international context.

The event, organized by ELIA (European League of Institutes of the Arts) together with Creative Prague, addressed the urgent transitions currently shaping the creative sector – from digital transformation to the green shift, as well as the challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence and global socio-economic changes. These themes gathered educators, policymakers, artists, and sector leaders from across Europe, with the aim of sharing knowledge and promoting new approaches to lifelong learning, reskilling, and upskilling. The motto of the 2025 edition, “Create. Transform. Regenerate.”, reflects the shared commitment to building more adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable creative ecosystems in response to ongoing changes.

During the Creative Skills Week, the AANT delegation had the opportunity to directly explore new methodological approaches. In particular, on 23 and 24 September the CYANOTYPES Training was held, a hands-on program designed for educators, strategists, and cultural professionals, in which both Rossana Quarta and Gianna Angelini actively participated. The CYANOTYPES project represents an innovative European framework aimed at developing transversal creative skills and supporting more resilient, future-oriented educational programs. Thanks to this training, our representatives were able to explore cutting-edge teaching tools and acquire new ideas to be transferred into the Academy’s educational pathways.

The Prague week also proved to be an important opportunity for networking and the exchange of best practices. AANT’s representatives engaged with dozens of international experts, sharing the Academy’s experience in discussions and contributing to interactive sessions. These moments of dialogue fostered new contacts with colleagues from other countries and provided valuable insights to be brought back to the Academy, further enriching the knowledge base and innovative perspectives of our institution.

AANT and Confcommercio Roma together for Rome Future Week

As part of Rome Future Week 2025, AANT hosted on September 17 an important event dedicated to cultural and social innovation. The meeting took place at the AANT headquarters in Via Monza 21, organized in collaboration with Confcommercio Roma and included within the “Tridente Moda District” project. The event, which started at 10:00 a.m., featured the presentation of the best final projects developed by students of the Interface and Interaction Design II course (BA program in Art Direction, Advertising, and Graphic Design, a.y. 2024/2025) on a real brief provided by Confcommercio Roma.

The initiative created a direct dialogue between academic training and the professional world, highlighting AANT’s role as a bridge between youthful creativity and the needs of the local territory.

Six student teams presented their design concepts aimed at enhancing Rome’s historic center through innovative solutions. First place was awarded to “Team 3,” composed of students De Santis and Piccinini. Their winning proposal consisted of a digital platform reinterpreting the Tridente (the historic area from Piazza del Popolo to Piazza di Spagna) as an integrated ecosystem of commerce, culture, and history. Through an interactive map, a calendar of dedicated events, and an online community, the platform seeks to engage residents, merchants, and visitors in a shared narrative of the district, combining shopping, cultural heritage, and social innovation. The originality and feasibility of the idea, coupled with a user-friendly design, convinced the jury and won acclaim from attendees.

The projects were evaluated by a joint AANT/Confcommercio technical jury, composed of prominent representatives from both institutions. Jury members included:

  • Fabrizio Russo – President, Historic Center of Rome (Confcommercio Roma)
  • Onorio Rebecchini – President, Convention Bureau Roma e Lazio
  • Gianluca Lo Presti – President, Rise – Fondazione per l’Attrazione di Roma e Partners
  • Valerio Lucci – President, Associazione Via Condotti
  • Claudia D’Alessandro – Account Manager Payments, Global Blue
  • Maddalena Salerno – CEO, Co-Founder & Creative Director, Bla Studio
  • Gianluca Lo Presti – Rise President– Fondazione per l’Attrazione Roma & Partners
  • Romolo Guasco – Director, Confcommercio Roma
  • Rossana Quarta – Director, AANT
  • Ana Gabriela Llarin – Coordinator, BA in Art Direction, Advertising & Graphic Design (AANT)
  • Emanuele Tarducci – Coordinator, BA in User Experience & UI – Interaction Design and MA in Communication & Design Methodologies (AANT)

  • Attilio Imbrogno – Experience & Service Design Manager, User Researcher (Intellera Shape Design Studio)
  • Stefano Tiburzi – Co-Founder & COO, S.M.I. Technologies and Consulting S.r.l.

Throughout the morning, each team presented its project to the jury and audience. The mix of Confcommercio Roma representatives together with AANT faculty and coordinators ensured a balanced evaluation, weighing both the relevance to Rome’s territory and business fabric, and the creative and methodological quality typical of academic pathways.

AANT faculty members involved in the project – Dario Moriconi, Roberto Savino, Nicolò Lai, Giovanna Arcieri, Ben Bugli, and Riccardo Onorato – supported the students throughout the entire process, from ideation to the refinement of proposals, ensuring alignment between educational goals and the client’s expectations.

In closing, Confcommercio Roma representatives emphasized how the collaboration with AANT, within the framework of Rome Future Week, generated fresh and concrete ideas for enhancing Rome’s historic center. For its part, the Academy expressed satisfaction with the excellent results of the course: the synergy among students, faculty, and external partners demonstrated how culture, creativity, and social innovation can come together to generate real solutions.

Beyond offering students a prestigious showcase before professionals and institutions, this event reaffirmed AANT’s commitment to training designers capable of connecting academic knowledge with the productive world, actively contributing to innovation projects in the territory.

Ultimately, the Rome Future Week session hosted by AANT highlighted the potential of young creatives as a driving force for social innovation, strengthening the Academy’s role as a hub of excellence where ideas for the future are born.

AANT at the training week “Tra reale e virtuale: la nostra presenza”

AANT took part in the training week “Tra reale e virtuale: la nostra presenza”, held from 21 to 24 July 2025 at Hotel Petrarca in Montegrotto Terme. The initiative, organized within the framework of the national network Dialogues for Futures (RD4F) and supported by PNRR funding (Education Mission – Futura. La Scuola per l’Italia di domani program), brought together teachers, school leaders, and administrative staff (DSGA) from across Italy for a series of workshops and dialogues on educational innovation. AANT’s participation in this significant event offered a valuable opportunity for exchange and professional growth, reaffirming the Academy’s commitment to developing and sharing cutting-edge educational practices in a spirit of open and positive collaboration.

The AANT delegation, led by General Director Rossana Quarta and Scientific Director Gianna Angelini, included six faculty members serving as speakers and tutors. In addition to Quarta and Angelini, the team featured Ana Gabriela Llarin (Didactic Coordinator and Creative Director), Valerio Di Paola (Didactic Coordinator), Matteo Quarta (Videomaking Lecturer), and Claudia Primangeli (Photography Lecturer). AANT professionals played a central role throughout the week, sharing their expertise in both plenary sessions and hands-on workshops for the direct benefit of all participants.

During the training week, the AANT team led three immersive workshops, offering participants practical tools and innovative methodologies for multimedia teaching and communication:

  • Progettare e realizzare presentazioni visive, led by Ana Gabriela Llarin, focused on visual design techniques for creating engaging and shareable educational content.
  • Raccontare con i reel, conducted by Matteo Quarta (with the support of videomaker Laura Santini), explored the creative use of short videos and social media to effectively and “smartly” communicate school projects and initiatives.
  • Transmedialità: Strategie per una comunicazione integrata, led by Valerio Di Paola, examined how to coordinate various online and offline channels to build a coherent, participatory, and inclusive school communication strategy.

These workshops allowed participants to experiment with new expressive formats and learn strategies to extend the school’s presence both in physical space and in digital environments. The enthusiasm and engagement demonstrated by participants throughout the sessions highlighted the effectiveness of a hands-on, collaborative learning approach—learning by doing and sharing.

In addition to the workshops, AANT experts contributed to the event’s plenary sessions with presentations and case studies drawn from best educational practices developed within the RD4F network. At the opening session, Rossana Quarta presented “Discovering Machiavelli”, an innovative educational project aimed at developing digital skills and literacies to explore the physical and symbolic dimensions of the school environment. Claudia Primangeli showcased a school-based photography project focused on the regeneration of learning environments, illustrating how photographic art can foster active participation and a sense of belonging among students.

These contributions were part of the introductory panel “La ‘presenza’ della rete: percorsi e laboratori arte, cittadinanza e transizione digitale 2024/25”, dedicated to sharing the outcomes of projects developed by schools in the Dialogues for Futures network over the past academic year. Later in the week, Gianna Angelini moderated an in-depth dialogue on the theme of presence together with Giovanna Barzanò (Scientific Coordinator of RD4F and AANT President) and Rossana Quarta. The conversation explored the strategic role of school networks in fostering cohesive and forward-looking educational communities. Angelini also delivered a keynote titled “IA generativa e prospettive future”, examining the opportunities and challenges posed by the introduction of Generative Artificial Intelligence in education.

The concept of “presence” in contemporary education served as the central theme of the Montegrotto training week. Throughout the event, participants discussed the importance of cultivating a strong social and cognitive presence in the school community. This means involving students as active agents in the learning process (e.g., through co-created multimedia projects) while also supporting teachers’ agency—their ability to innovate and positively impact the educational context.

All proposed activities were grounded in this vision. Participants explored participatory methodologies such as trialogical learning, where the shared creation of artefacts (presentations, videos, storytelling) serves as both process and product. They also reflected on active teaching strategies inspired by public history and citizen science, applied to classroom practice. Significant attention was devoted to the mindful use of emerging technologies. Generative Artificial Intelligence, for instance, was not approached as a mere trend but rather as an opportunity to rethink the roles of teachers and students. The aim is to harness AI’s innovative potential while ensuring that human presence and interaction remain central to the educational experience.

In every session and workshop, the human dimension of presence was consistently emphasized: building authentic relationships, stimulating curiosity, promoting inclusion, and encouraging dialogue. In short, being meaningfully present in the learning process.
