CONSTRAINTS AND OPPORTUNITIES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN ART.
With the AI BOUNDS event on 22 June 2023, AANT inaugurated a new Open AANT format.
AI BOUNDS was a moment of great value that brought together AANT, IED, NABA, and RUFA directors to discuss the theme of artificial intelligence applied to generative art.

The important question of the know-how students will have to acquire in this ever-changing field was at the centre of the meeting. Together, we asked ourselves how to train future professionals capable of using artificial intelligence as a creative tool without neglecting the critical spirit and ethical sense. Using artificial intelligence to generate creative works implies reflections on artistic authenticity, intellectual property, privacy, and the ethics of creative automation.

The event was opened by the sociologist Derrick de Kerckhove, who highlighted the revolutionary scope of the moment, which has great ethical and anthropological consequences, and the lawyer Luca Amorelli, who focused on the legal issues related to the use of generative art in the creative field.

Two approaches emerged from the comparison: experimentation to force the potential of Artificial Intelligence to fit into an already established methodology and experimentation to force the method to adapt to AI’s peculiarities, testing new approaches to the work.

Both approaches converge in human control of the procedure and respect for the work ethic of all parties involved.
This is also why teaching has become crucial in encouraging students to deepen their expressive skills and abilities in a transdisciplinary perspective to maintain control of their design.
